Looking for a productive way to spend a rainy weekend? Why not go book shopping and contribute to a good cause at the same time? Share a Book India Association (SABIA), a non-governmental organization (NGO) based in Kota, is hosting their annual literary festival, Kitab Utsav, in the city this weekend. The festival will feature a wide selection of pre-owned books for both young adults and adults. All of the books on sale at the event have been donated by generous individuals during SABIA's book donation drives.

According to Srishti Parihar, co-founder and director of SABIA, their organization raises funds by selling second-hand books. This not only supports their cause, but also helps spread awareness about their efforts. SABIA's main objective is to establish free libraries in government schools for underprivileged children. Currently, they have successfully set up 175 libraries across 16 states and three Union territories. In Mumbai, they have partnered with 14 schools and have collaborated with Share, a city-based NGO, to create a community library in Santacruz.

The purpose of this cause is to ensure that all children have access to books and the freedom to choose what they read. Free libraries are the most effective way to accomplish this goal. The initiative began in Kota and has expanded throughout the country thanks to the dedication of our volunteers. In addition to books, visitors can purchase merchandise from SABIA, such as tote bags and bookmarks, participate in hour-long storytelling sessions with voiceover and dubbing artists Vishal Menon and Renu Sharda, take part in literature quizzes and games, and enjoy delicious food from small businesses.
